This week on the bookish internet

  1. Man, the stuff happening on GoodReads is pretty sickening. I knew it was bad, but I didn’t know it was THAT bad!

    1. Right? I knew there were shenanigans in the reviews, but it never occurred to me that someone would try to weaponize bad reviews! It’s just so pathetic and petty, and I feel for the authors (especially the debut authors) who get tangled up in this. No one needs this aggravation.

I wish there was a better alternative where I could keep track of my reading life and swap book recs with friends. Other competitors never seem to have all the features I want. Most of them seem to focus almost exclusively on generating recommendations. I have no problem finding books to read.

  2. Have I mentioned LibraryThing to you before… ? I use it to catalog and TBR my own collection. It has social forums too, though I haven’t made much use of those yet.

  3. That Time article about Goodreads was disturbing to read. Surely there should be more scrutiny in place to protect users from abuse of this kind?

    1. I have no idea if GoodReads has moderators or anyone to keep an eye on things.
