I read some really good books this year:
- The Naming Song, by Jedediah Barry
- The Haunting of Moscow House, by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore
- The Reformatory, by Tananarive Due
- City of Last Chances, by Adrian Tchaikovsky
- Witch King, by Martha Wells
- The Undermining of Twyla and Frank, by Megan Bannen
- The Ministry of Time, by Kaliane Bradley
- Kalyna the Soothsayer, by Elijah Kinch Spector
- Night Will Find You, by Julia Haeberlin
- The Djinn Waits a Hundred Years, by Shubnum Khan
- Thistlefoot, by GennaRose Nethercott
- Republic of Lies, by Anna Merlan
This is not a ranked list; it’s in reverse chronological order. I hope you try one or two of these. My reading tastes are a bit off-kilter sometimes and I like to take a chance on a weird book if the premise intrigues me. More often than not, the authors of these books end up being great bookish journeys with wonderful characters, fantastic settings, and plots that push the boundaries of genre conventions.
And here’s the full list of everything I read in the last twelve months, if you’re curious.
